Well that Really Was A Lot of Fun!

Fat sounds, friendly folk, fuckin’ ace night! Thanks babblers one and all for making last Sat one of the best babble nights for a long time. Lets do it again soon…

Stay in touch for news of the next night:

Public service announcement – Miss S. McLaughlin left her handbag, phone, cashcard and (naughty girl) a large bottle of vodka at the club. Call Keo’s on 0116 2622929 to get it back (although I think the manager may be away on holiday for a couple of weeks now – hopefully someone will be there to give it to you if you’ve not got it already).

babble back at keos 26th Jan 2008

bass hornHappy New Year to you all! We’re back at Keo’s bar above the Music Cafe on Braunstone Gate on Saturday the 26th January 2008. Time to start dancing off all those chocolates! 10pm – 4am, £3 before 11pm, £5 after.

We’ll be celebrating life in general but also the birthdays of good friends Chris, Dave, Gail, Becs and Jackie, so get the date in your diary – don’t miss out!

babble djs damien, rob, mono and debs will be providing the deep house grooves, along with special guest Not Will from MWD40. We’ll have a second room hosted by Long Jon, Lobstafari and Dave.

Fancy dress is encouraged on an animal theme, but is optional!

Also we have some work still to do but are hoping to be using some new bass bins which should double our trouser flapping output – another reason to come down for some lovely house vibrations.

Humdinger

What a fantastic night! Thanks to everyone who made it such a blast. I think we had more help with the logistics of running the night than we’ve had for years, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy! Thanks to the lifters and shifters, the folk who manned the door, Daz for lending us the backroom scoops, Jon for the lights and backdrops, Owen and Phil for bringing lights and projectors down from Aberdeen and last but not least to all who turned up with a positive attitude, a friendly face and a big pair of dancing pants.

I think its likely we’ll be back at Keo’s again sometime soon; we know some things aren’t perfect but its a good size, the 4am license is a definite plus and the security were fantastic. Please click here to sign up for the mailing list if you haven’t already so we can let you know about the next one.

P.S. If you lost a black cardigan (from atmosphere) at the club or left a black jacket at my house afterwards let us know via info AT babble dot org dot uk.

Website Changes and Birthday Reflections

Happy New Year to you all!

A quick technical announcement: I’ve just moved the babble website to a new publishing system. Everything should look more or less as it did before. The main reason for doing this was to prevent spammers filling up our comments with crap about poker, sex pills and the like. They shouldn’t be able to do that now, but we’ll see how it goes.

Let me know if anything is broken with the new site.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Bambu party… it was great to see so many people out and a good time was had by most. It was great to have the rig chucking out the beats again! Sorry the security were so rude, they caused one or two problems and I’m not sure we’ll be going back there unless they have a change of staff. Thanks too to the Doji crew for hosting the after party – very hospitable as always! Respect to those who were generous with donations for the bucket, we didn’t quite cover the costs (basically the club hire plus printing a few flyers) but not too far off. The search continues for a decent venue.. suggestions always welcome, for clubs or outside venues.

bumpin babble birthday

15th December @ Bambu (Welford Road) to celebrate babble’s 13th birthday and Damien’s 30th we’re dustin down the rig for a shindig. The line up for the night will include all the babble djs plus Tom from Smokescreen, Damien’s partner in production under their “Special Interest” alias. Its only a little venue (100 capacity) so get down there early! We kick off at 9pm with a set from the Lobstafarian. Entry is free but donations will be very much appreciated, if we can cover the costs (about £2 a head) we’ll do it all again soon.

More House About

mofi flyerStill doing my best to keep you informed of midlands deep house action during the extended babble sabbatical… Look out for Mo-Fi next weekend in Nottingham. I believe Smokescreen are doing a night in Oxford at the Zodiac this weekend featuring the Inland Knights… and further out on the horizon, City Fly have a new night starting at Original Four on May the 26th.

On a personal note, thanks to all the revellers who helped warm up my new house a couple of weeks back… without doubt a fully riotus affair enjoyed muchly by the host and hostess and as far as I can tell all who came. You’ll be pleased to know that the smell has nearly gone now, and the neighbours have been placated. There are photos over at flickr

Dancing Action

Well, I may not have a full blown babble night for you yet (you’ll have to wait a wee bit longer for that, I know, I know, we are a bunch of slackers) but I do have some news of a couple of cracking nights of musical entertainment:

phonek flyer14th April 2006 (thats Good Friday) a Phonek gig at the Attik. In one room we have babble djs Debs, Rob and Mono… and in the other room we have Phonek playing electrial and accoustical niceness and also jon cank doing there thing as well as James kelly doing what he does best with 4 decks some giutars and congas and whatever else comes his way.

4th March 2006 Punky Reggae Party night at Sumo is on for March 4th, hosted by the Lobstafari himself (of babble and MWD40 fame). As his Edness puts it: “Its not house music, of course, but it should be pretty cool for anyone who fancies something a bit different”. 3 live bands: “360” playing Ska, “Memphis” a roots reggae band, and the mighty “Barnyard Masturbator” (or “BYM”) playing punk rock plus punky reggae sounds from DJ Prince Lobsta…and all for a feeble £3 !!! MWD40 continue the party at oddessey straight afterwards (12 till 4am) – free entry too – see mwd40’s site for more details.
