Amps

* 2 x Studiomaster 1000, one very broken, the other fairly broken. Last used about 7 years ago, when the least broken one would run for a bit before cutting out. Nigel from Purple PA pronounced them beyond hope. Chris Lincoln has one, Ed possibly has the other.
* “The Cooker” – Ed has this, about 600 watts total output I think
* Carlsbro SM300, v. old, presumed to be 150 watts a side into 4 ohms (only guessing) – used for tops
* No Comply – old monitor amp. MF300 module amp, built by BK electronics (still in production as recently as 2004) 310W at 4 ohm, 220W at 8 ohm
* C-Audio RA2000, must be 10 years old now. 450w per channel @ 4 ohms stereo, 290wpc at 8 ohms stereo, 900w into 8 ohms bridged (all measured at 1kHz and 0.1% distortion). The specs don’t list 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm bridged ratings, usually a sign that it won’t be happy at those loads. specs on speakerplans here
I think it has a 1200 watts max output listed on it somewhere. Usually used to run monitors these days, although initially ran 4 scoops, then mids as we got bigger things. Seems to require a huge unbalanced signal to get reasonable output; prefers to be run off a balanced signal (which it never is when we use for monitors). I suspect it is not designed to accept an unbalanced signal.
* C-Audio Pulse 2×1100 – at 1Khz < 0.1% THD+N: 700 wpc at 8ohms, 1100 wpc at 4 ohms, in theory 1500wpc at 2 ohms (1% THD) although has never been used in this mode. Damping Factor >200 ref 8 ohm, Slew rate >50 V/microsecond. We have:
** 1 working (serial 2002025), repaired May 2008 by Harman Pro. Work carried out: Replaced pulse transformer, ztx drive transistors and fit resistor modification.
** 1 which we originally sent to Mark at MMS for repair. Was used to run bass before it broke; Mark replaced some parts but had no success getting it working. Sent to Harman Pro May 2008, but considered uneconomical to repair. UPDATE 2010 now repaired by Chris Harden in Southampton (paid for by CB at time of writing). He advises it may be difficult to repair again if we break it again as it has now had a lot of repairs and the boards aren’t in great condition. Used for the first time at Lestival, to run one 4 ohm monitor on one channel and the two big JBL horns on the other
* Ecler Pam 960 – 2 x 480 Watt/4 Ohm, 2 x 275 Watt/8 Ohm (specs from a hire price list found on the web). CB has been using it to drive compression drivers while testing Nov 2009 and it appears a bit flaky, limit lights sometimes stay on after powering off; had a large “crack” when powering off once; no output observed once when powered on (cycling power brought it back to life) UPDATE 2010 – this one has gone back to Owen.
* Void Infinite 8 Mk2 – 2×3800 Watt / 2 Ohm, 2 x 2520 Watt/ 4 Ohm, 2x 1380 at 8 Ohm. Bought New 2008.
