Dancin, Dancin, Dancin!

Friday 30th January @ Havana Yeoman St. Leicester (map) 10pm - 3am. babble blasts into 2004 with our second date at Havana. This new venue seems to have gone down well with you lot, judging by the folk I babbled to during / after our first gig there last month, so we’re gonna do it all over again. If we get as good a turn out as last time it will become a once a month fixture, so get down and get groovin! Tunes will be spun for your aural pleasure by Lee Topham (Underground Rebellion) and our very own Rob & Debs. We’ll be adding extra sound again to supply the appropriate quantity of bass-a-liciousness and Image Oven has promised to shine bright lights in your eyes for no extra fee.

You may also be interested to know that Debs will be playing with good friend Jane Fitz (Peg) at Dizzy Funk! Friday 23rd January 2004, along with host Sean + Andy & Iain (SAS). Peterborough also plays host to DiY’s Digs and Woosh on 17th Jan, courtesy of SAS @ The Verve.

Lastly a few words of thanks… big love to everyone who turned out last time, and thanks also to Mr Webster who did us proud. Kisses to MWD40 who hosted a fantastic New Years bash, I had a ball playing for you, as always, thanks for having me!

Charles Webster Plays Leicester

Friday 12th December @ Havana Yeoman St. Leicester (map - the club is at the halford street end, next to the lap dancing place(!)). We’ve found a new club and babble are proud to announce that we will be playing host to deep house dj and producer Charles Webster. Can’t tell you much more about it right now cos I’m dashing off to play in Czech (Brno on the 28th and Prague on the 29th) with Bov and Damo, but hopefully I’ll see you all on the 12th. Big thanks go out to everyone who made the boat party such a special, sparkling and spectacular occaision… one love!

Update: right then, I’m back from Czech.. for more info on this new night check out the BBC’s interview with Deb.

10th Birthday Boat Party

boat flyer22nd November 2003 Boat Party on the Thames

Update… Map: for those of you not coming on the coach, here’s a map - boat leaves at 9pm sharp. A couple of other things I should bring to the attention of all who sail on the good ship Miyuki Maru:

  1. the coach company don’t want anyone boozin’ on the bus, so no cans or glass bottles please - be discrete ;-)
  2. the boat people are really strict about not allowing anyone to bring alcohol onto the boat - if they catch you they may not let you on, or worse - their terms state: “Any contravention of this policy will result in the function being terminated immediately at the nearest pier without refund”
  3. anyone found enjoying themselves too much will be made to walk the plank

Ok, so I made up number 3. Just remember to be respectful to the captain and his crew and if you must be naughty, don’t get caught!

P.S. No more tickets left - sorry if you missed out, we’ll be doing another night soon - watch this space, or sign up for the mailing list.

Original posting: ohmygoodness I’ve been wanting to be able to announce this for weeks… after many hitches glitches and false starts we have finally found a boat we can celebrate babble’s 10th birthday on. We’re into double figures now and a troublesome adolescence is only just around the corner, so come celebrate with us while we’re still flushed with the excitement of youth!

The babble boat parties are the stuff of legend - if you’ve never been on one before, don’t miss out! I met my girlfriend on one 5 years ago… I can’t guarantee you’ll find one as nice as mine, but love will be abundant, as will the chunkiest, funkiest house music, supplied by damo, debs, mono and rob… and, if you’re really good, we’ll ask uncle bov to spin some tunes too.

The boat will be sailing from Swan Pier, near London Bridge on the Thames, at 9pm sharp on Saturday 22nd November, returning at 2am. How am I going to get there I hear you cry? Why on the beautiful babble bus I reply! There are only 140 places available at an all inclusive, bargainous price of £20 (thats just 20 quid for a return bus leicester - london and admission to the boat), so get ‘em quick while you can, they’re sure to go very quickly. Bus leaves Leicester from outside The Showrooms bar, Charles Street at 6pm sharp. We also have a limited number of tickets (60) available for those who don’t need transport at £15 sold out.

Tickets are available now over the web with a credit card… or from one of the babble members… they will be available from Blink Clubwear, Odeon Arcade (off Market Place) from 21.10.2003, either in person or over the phone: 0116 2625820.

Yet another free party!

A big thanks to everyone that came to Dave and Jax engagement bash. You all made it a first class night. If anyone out there has photographic evidence of the event, please send us an email to info@babble.org.uk,

Thank You and Goodbye

Well, THAT was chunky…!

I hope everyone had a good time… I know I did! Managed to loose one of the lenses out of my shades (that’ll teach me to go exploring down deer tracks in the woods - turned out I wasn’t quite as stable on my feet as I thought I was ;-) and probably a few brain cells too but hey, its a small price to pay for a wicked night dancin to deep house in the countryside! If anyone’s got any photo’s please let us know or even better scan ‘em in and send them to us - email “info AT babble.org.uk” so we can put them up here. Watch this space for news of future events. Add your memories of the night via the comments link.

David Duriez Comes to the UK

Friday 30th May - babble allnighter @ Junction 21 Midland St, Leicester. For our last allnighter till the autumn, we’re proud to present special guest David Duriez. David runs the top french label Brique Rouge, and has released tracks on 20:20 Vision, NRK, Stickmen and Robsoul. You can hear his mix from last September here. All the regular babble djs (Rob, Damo, Debs and Mono) will be playing too - they’re currently scouring the land for the freshest grooves to create a night of musical delicacies for you thang shakers. The back room will provide some serious competition for the funk fans amongst you - back by popular demand we have DiY’s Osbourne; the creative skills of Long Jon and John Peel Jr. complete the back room line up.

I’m also pleased to announce the launch of babble’s new internet radio station, homegrown radio. There’s a short mix from John Peel Jr up there at the moment, but we will be regularly updating the station with new mixes from all the babble djs plus the occaisional guest, so be sure to tune in frequently.
